So, we thought we’d share some of our top picks with you. Whether you’re coming from local or afar, here are eight summer events in Cheshire, near Malpas, that you might like to go along to.
Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre – 15 miles away
Back for 2021, this amazing team from Storyhouse puts on three remarkable theatre productions every year and this year is no different. Pop the prosecco and come together again (finally!) for an extended summer of joyful theatre in the park. Performing The Jungle Book, Shakespeare’s Merry Wives of Windsor as well as Pride and Prejudice, there’s so much to see. Tickets are available now, with productions running up until the 30th of August. The Open-Air theatre is not to be missed, take it from us, it’s a perfect summer event in Cheshire for when you’re staying in one of our rooms for a few days.
Moonlight Flicks – 13.2 miles away (closest location)
Storyhouse’s Moonlight Flicks returns this summer with their largest and longest open-air season of cinema to date. Showing in three great locations this year, no matter where you are sat, you can enjoy scenes on the big screen. The films are shown on Storyhouse’s giant 30ft Airscreen, and each location will have refreshments on offer. Films start as the sun sets. You can expect classics such as Romeo & Juliet, Bridget Jones’s Diary, and Trainspotting as well as films for all the family: The Lion King, The Greatest Showman, The Secret Garden, Jurassic Park, and Guardians of the Galaxy. A few musical favourites such as Grease and Mamma Mia are also among the line-up, as well as a whole host of irresistible 80s classics including Dirty Dancing, Back To The Future, The Princess Bride and Karate Kid. Chester Zoo’s Love It Longer Exhibition – 17.4 miles away
Chester Zoo has unveiled a new exhibition made entirely out of rubbish and waste. ‘Love it for Longer’, which opened 11th June and runs until mid-October, features eight huge installations created by six different artists, each formed from discarded plastic rubbish, old fabrics, unwanted technology, rainwater and even animal dung. The exhibition celebrates Chester Zoo’s 90th anniversary as a leading wildlife charity and champions sustainability across all facets of day-to-day life, aiming to show how the world can become a waste-free zone if people work together. It is not to be missed and the perfect summer event in Cheshire for our Lion guests.
Party Nights Afloat – 15.3 miles away
Step aboard for a night out with a difference. Setting sail every Saturday, ChesterBoat’s themed party cruises provide unforgettable nights on the water. It’s truly one of our not-to-be-missed events of the summer. You can choose your theme, choose your date, and sail back in time through your favourite eras in music, with the spectacular backdrop of the River Dee. Themes include: 60s, 70s & 80s Rewind, Motown, Sounds of the 70s & 80s, Mamma Mia, 80s Pop Party, Hits of the 90s, and 90s to Now. Dust of the fancy dress and hop on board. The Aqua Park at Alderford Lake – 6.7 miles away
Although technically in Shropshire, Alderford Lake is a place is too good to exclude over a few miles. Boasting over 14 acres of water, the lake is home to wild swimming and many other water-based activities such as SUP and their new Aqua Park. Open from April to September, the incredible 80-person aqua park includes 4 islands, the slide of all slides and a whole bunch of other fun obstacles, perfect for the adrenaline-junkie. Wetsuits, paddleboards, and other equipment are available to hire on site so that even if you’re a newbie to the world of wild swimming you can dive right in. Taste Cheshire Food & Drink Festival – 16.5 miles away
Located at Chester Racecourse, Taste Cheshire Food & Drink Festival is the biggest event of its type to take place anywhere in the UK over August Bank holiday (28th August – 30th August). Over 150 exhibitors highlighting the best the county, region and country has to offer means that for the visitor, it is a wonderful culinary experience. Every year, there’s a fabulous line up of celebrity and local chefs, and this year is no different. Already announced is Ready Steady Cook’s Paul Rankin, MasterChef’s John Torode and Eat Well for Less Star- Chris Bavin! Tickets can be purchased here.
Family Fete with Teddy Bears Picnic at Cholmondeley Castle – 4.5 miles away
Taking place on the 22nd August, Cholmondeley Castle provides a stunning backdrop for picnickers to enjoy a traditional family fun day out. There’s so much fun in store at their Teddys Bears Picnic and Fete this year with activities such as hook a duck, teddy bear hunt, storytelling, balloon art and the all-important bouncy castle! The Wingate Sports Coaches will be getting little ones moving with fun activities throughout the day. Dogs are welcome too! Family Fun Evening at Bangor Race Course – 7.8 miles away
Bangor-On-Dee’s famous Family Fun Evening returns on the 16th of August 2021 and promises an exciting night for all.
