Did you know that Afternoon Tea is an old English tradition that dates back all the way to the 1840s?! This delectable treat was initially developed as a private social event for ladies who climbed the echelons of society.

And within recent years (much to our joy) Afternoon Tea has made a return. A renewed interest in this delightfully British custom has been welcomed by many. There’s nothing better than heading out with your parents, a partner or even your friends for a good natter over some cakes, sandwiches and of course – a steaming pot of tea.

Did you know we offer a beautifully put together Afternoon Tea at The Lion? So, whether you’re a ‘jam first’ or ‘cream first’ kind of person, we know you’re going to love what we have on offer either way. Here’s our guide to planning an Afternoon Tea in Cheshire.

What’s The Occasion?

We’re not saying there has to be a reason to book your Afternoon Tea. If the mood takes you, then who are we to argue? However, if you are planning your trip for a special occasion, then be sure to bring this up to us. We’re always happy to bring out a cake with candles and embarrass your loved ones!

Choose Your Afternoon Tea

Afternoon Tea is not the same as it was in the 1800s, there are different types you can ask for nowadays! At The Lion, though we offer just one selection of small cakes and sandwiches, we’re happy to accommodate you if you’re fancying something a little bit ‘more’ too. What would you opt for?

  • Classic Afternoon Tea – which includes a number of finger sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, a couple of small cakes or desserts and of course, a big pot of tea or coffee.
  • Sparkling Afternoon Tea – lunching with your ladies or celebrating something special? Why not ask us for a glass or two of bubbly with your Afternoon Tea to make it really fun?
